Chelsea’s title chase is on after win over Brighton

Chelsea chase for WSL title remains well on course after posting a 3-1 win over Brighton and Hove `Albion.

Seeking an immediate response to her side’s League Cup defeat to Arsenal on Sunday, Emma Hayes got exactly what she wanted as her team climbed to second with just a point behind leaders Manchester United.

Guro Reiten’s penalty opened the account for Chelsea after Samm Kerr drew a foul inside the box. Jess Carter doubled the hosts’ lead before the breather to send managerless BHA to halftime trailing 0-2.

Johanna Rytting Kaneryd added a third before Danielle Carter’s consolation.

This result – and response – was just what Hayes wanted before a crucial three weeks which also includes a Champions League quarter-final against holders Lyon and an FA Cup quarter-final at Reading.
