Manchester United scored five goals against Leicester City in their latest 5-1 win.
Attacking stalwart Alessia Russo scored three goals to take her tally to eight in another emphatic 80 minutes in front of goal. Russo’s first strike came in the 15th minute when she turned home a Martha Thomas assist.
United cranked the pressure in search for a second and their efforts paid off in the 33rd minute when Russo headed home a fine cross from Ona Batlle after some good build up play from United.
The host went for the breather with a two goal lead.
Leicester emerged from the tunnel with renewed vigor and pulled one in the 48th minute Remy Siemsen turned home a perfect ball from wide player Josie Green.
United restored their two goal cushion five minutes later when Russo completed her three goal salvo. Russo turned provider for United’s fourth goal when the visitors switched off and failed to deal with a short corner.
A searching cross from the left was calmly flicked by an alert Russo and fell perfectly to Leah Galton who smashed home from close range, United capped off a good afternoon when substitute Lucía García toyed with the Leicester defence to curl from inside the box.
Janina Leitzig was the best player for Leicester as the on-loan Bayern Munich goalkeeper thwarted shot after shot and made an impressive nine saves against the table-toppers.
The win takes United to 35 points, four ahead of Chelsea who play Arsenal in the Continental League Cup final.
