Australian midfielder Elise Kellond-Knight has ruptured an Achilles tendon and will miss the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The 32-year-old midfield stalwart suffered the injury in training on Friday to end her season.
Matildas coach Tony Gustavsson said, “We are all heartbroken and completely devastated for Elise with this latest injury news.”
“KK is one of the strongest and most resilient people and players I have coached, and our team, our staff and Football Australia as an organisation will surround her with strong care and backing during a difficult time,” he continued.
Elise Kellond-Knight will now require surgery as she kick starts her road to recovery.
