Chelsea put Arsenal to the sword in Women’s FA Cup

Chelsea took another step towards retaining the English Women’s FA Cup for the second year after beating Arsenal 2-0 at Kingsmeadow today.

Two goals either side of the interval from Sophie Ingle and Sam Kerr were enough to send the defending champions into the last eight. Chelsea broke through after some positive play from Lauren James on the right opened teed-up Sophie Ingle in the middle, who drilled a shot into the bottom corner.  

Sam Kerr who marked her 100th appearance for the club with the second just before the hour mark. Arsenal mounted a series of attacks late in the game  Emma Hayes’ side held firm to keep a clean sheet and progress to the next round of the Women’s FA Cup.
