Carole Costa scored a dramatic last-gasp penalty to help Portugal beat Cameroon and earn their first ever IFA Women’s World Cup appearance.

The final score was 2-1 in favor of Portugal. Portugal dominated the inter-confederation play-off, pinning back the opponent with purpose and poise from the off. Diana Gomes broke through when she pounced on a rebound from a Kika Nazareth free-kick on minute 22. the teams retreated for the breather with Portugal leading by a goal to nil.

Cameroon found the equalizer in the 89th minute when Inter striker Ajara Nchout found the back of the net to set up an electric finish to the match.

Estelle Johnson handled in the box on minute 94 to earn Portugal a chance to restore reclaim the initiative and and Carole Costa made no mistake from the spot. the win earned Portugal their maiden appearance at the global soccer showcase where they will compete in Group E against Netherlands, Vietnam and the holders, the United States.
