Hosts and hot favorites USWNT open their SheBelieves Cup campaign with a date against long standing rivals Canada today.
Notable USA absentees in Rose Lavelle, Catarina Macario, Christen Press, and Tierna Davidson have presented trainer Vlatko Andonovski with a chance to look at other players such as Andi Sullivan and Taylor Kornieck as he finalizes his roster for the WC.
Julie Ertz, who gave birth to her first child in August and is expected to not be in consideration for the World Cup squad, will also be a big miss. Also missing in action is Kelley O’Hara, who is nursing a hip injury but plans to be available post this month’s round of matches.
USAWNT has most recently shaped up in a 4-3-3 formation with the frontline mainly consisting of Mallory Swanson, Alex Morgan and a rotation of either Trinity Rodman or Midge Purce.
