The CanWNT will play in the SheBelieves Cup under protest amid fundamental issues that they feel are yet to be addressed by the Canada Football Association.

Players have highlighted issues such as inferior staffing and resources as well as pay disputes dating as far back as 2022.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, Janine Beckie, Christine Sinclair, Sophie Schmidt, and Quinn stressed on the need for the authorities to end the impasse instead of arm-twisting players with legal threats.

“There is a FIFA window coming up in April,” Sinclair said. “We have said that if things are not just addressed, if things are not fixed, we will not be going to that camp. This is obviously like a short term solution. Like we have all said, we will be playing these games in protest. Obviously the next FIFA window that will not be the case.”

The women’s team feels that they deserve a better deal having earned top prizes in the past three editions of the Olympics, including the historic gold medal of 2021.
